Brief Title
After lots of different variations of the brief, I have decided to look at the how visuals can be used to portray music. I have chosen to look at Noise music, and how its non-conformist approach to sound can be translated into moving images and sound.
Noise Music
Noise music is a form of sound art that chooses not to conform to the usual aspects of what we know as music. Distortion and non-linear spontaneous sounds are what are achieved through noise music.
I have decided to base my project on this form of music, as it will allow me to not conform to the stereotypes of what art should be. In a sense, I want to create a metaphysical piece of work that highlights the interesting aspects of what animated art can be.
Here is an example of noise music by a noise artist called Merzbow.
Fractal animation
This animation is effectively zooming into an image which changes. I don like the effect, but want to have more moving aspects in my final outcome.
Fractal Art and animation
Fractal Art was recommended to me to research, but I feel its too calculated and lacks the spontaneity the hand is only capable of producing. I do enjoy looking at it, but its not something I want to pursue in this project.
From looking at the art, I will definitely be taking the surreal and colour aspects used in Fractal art.
Anamanaguchi
Anamanaguchi is an American chip-tune punk band. This means they use old game consoles such as the original Gameboy and hack them into musical devices. Their music videos for their album Dawn Metropolis contains a kind of psychedelic 8-Bit style.
Superflat Art
Superflat is a Japanese art movement that critiques the bizarre nature of Japanese pop-culture. Takashi Murakami is the founder of this movement, and his hand painted art looks as if it were from a Japanese cartoon. The strong use of colour allmost creats a psychedelic and surreal atmosphere that can be too strong on the eyes. Here are some examples of his work.

Beginning The
This three week project is different from the rest of our other projects, as it is up to me to decide my brief. As there is only a short time for this project, I have decided to examine and explore psychedelia and mark making in animation. I have always been interested in things I can't understand, from weird films to anything that is perceived as out of the box.
